First baby goats of the season!

We woke to a cold morning with less than two inches of snow on the ground and the first three kids of the season in the barn.  Momma Jupiter is the proud parent of Rusty, Misty and Sport.  Sport looks like his mom with the Nubian patterns while Rusty and Misty take after the Spanish/Boer cross look of  Pappa Denver.  Looks like everyone is up and ready for breakfast!

Rusty, Sport and Misty ponder their entry to the world!
Everyone is healthy and has figured out the eating process.  In a few days, they'll have the first day kinks out and start the contests of who can jump the highest and hurdle over Mom as she tries to nap!

Seed Catalogs Arriving Daily!

Choices, choices and choices!
There is a bright spot in the cold and often dark days of early winter.  It's the days when new seed catalogs arrive, tempting you with the promise of spring and the joys of summer vegetables.  Each day brings a new offering, covers which tease you with the perfect fruits and flowers.  It's those temptations that lead to me to trying 20 varieties of tomatoes and two dozen types of peppers.  For some veggies, it's the test of finding the lowest price for the tried and true variety...where will I find the best price on Clemson Spineless Okra?  As an NC State graduate, I always struggle with that name, should I be jealous because of the recognition that the Tiger's get with each utterance of the name or is it really a great insult that each time the name is repeated "spineless" is tagged to the SC school.  Since my blood runs Wolfpack red, I like the insult option!  So Clemson Spineless it will be as there is no better okra, whatever the intend of the name.  If it were only that easy to settle on varieties of tomatoes and peppers!
